Title: Middle School Social Studies & Religion Teacher
Pay: $48,000 - $52,000 annually (DOE)
Schedule: typically, Monday–Friday, approximately 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with occasional evenings for events, meetings, and professional development.

As Nazareth School – San Diego’s Middle School Social Studies & Religion Teacher, you will serve as the Middle School homeroom teacher while teaching social studies and religion to students in grades 6–8. This role is an opportunity to help students deepen their understanding of history, civics, geography, and Catholic faith within a supportive, faith-filled Catholic school community. You will bring learning to life through engaging, discussionbased lessons, technology integration, and differentiated instruction aligned with California State Standards and Diocese of San Diego Religion Standards.
What You’ll Do
Plan and deliver rigorous, standardsaligned social studies instruction (including history, civics, geography, and current events) for middle school students in grades 6–8.
Plan and deliver religion instruction that integrates Scripture, Church teaching, morality, and Catholic social teaching in alignment with Diocese of San Diego Religion Standards for grades 6–8.
Serve as Middle School homeroom teacher, fostering a positive classroom culture and supporting students’ academic, socialemotional, and spiritual growth as they prepare for high school.
Differentiate instruction for a wide range of learners using smallgroup work, projects, and educational technology (e.g., Google Classroom and other digital tools).
Assess and monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments; maintain accurate records and communicate results to students and parents.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians through conferences, emails, and other updates regarding student progress and classroom activities.
Collaborate with middle school colleagues to align curriculum, coordinate projects and liturgies, and share best practices.
Fulfill additional responsibilities such as supervision duties, participation in school events, and supporting schoolwide initiatives.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Bachelor’s degree in education, social studies, theology/religious studies, or a related discipline.
California Multiple Subject Credential or relevant Single Subject Credential in Social Science or related field (or ability/willingness to obtain).
Two or more years of successful teaching experience, preferably in middle school and ideally within a Catholic or faithbased school.
Demonstrated ability to design and implement engaging, discussion and projectbased lessons aligned with California State Standards.
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to inspire and support adolescent learners in grades 6–8.
Proficiency with educational technology tools (e.g., Google Classroom and online learning platforms).
Practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of Catholic values (preferred) and commitment to supporting the mission and philosophy of Catholic education.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organization and timemanagement, and commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.
