About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join a growing international trading organization supporting U.S. operations from Houston, Texas. This role will serve as the primary accounting resource for the U.S. entity, partnering closely with teams in Hong Kong and the United States to ensure financial accuracy, tax compliance, and operational support.The ideal candidate has experience in trading, distribution, inventory-based, or product-driven businesses and possesses strong full-cycle accounting knowledge, cost accounting expertise, and hands-on experience managing U.S. tax compliance requirements. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in a growing operation while collaborating with an international team.
Work Arrangement
- Initially remote
- Transition to primarily in-office work once the Houston office is established.
- Standard work schedule anticipated to be 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Flexibility is required to accommodate occasional communication with teams in Hong Kong across time zones.
- Occasional extended availability may be needed for urgent business matters and cross-functional coordination.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the primary accounting and finance contact for the U.S. entity, supporting business operations and ensuring compliance with U.S. accounting and taxation requirements.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Oversee cost accounting activities for trading operations, including inventory valuation, landed cost calculations, freight expenses, customs duties, tariffs, and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) analysis.
- Monitor inventory-related financial activity for more than 100 product SKUs shipped directly from a Texas warehouse.
- Manage U.S. federal, state, and local tax compliance, including sales tax filings, property tax reporting, and other regulatory requirements.
- Ensure timely submission of tax filings and compliance with applicable reporting deadlines.
- Assist with internal and external audits and coordinate with auditors, tax professionals, and external advisors as needed.
- Respond to time-sensitive U.S.-based business matters, including vendor payments, customer and vendor inquiries, government correspondence, and compliance-related communications.
- Develop and maintain cash flow reporting and provide financial information and analysis to leadership to support business decision-making.
- Partner closely with accounting and operations teams located in Hong Kong and the United States to obtain timely financial, shipping, and operational information.
- Review accounting information provided by the Hong Kong team and ensure accuracy of U.S. financial records and reporting.
- Establish, maintain, and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and financial procedures.
- Support special projects and other accounting and finance initiatives as assigned.
What We Need From You
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing full-set accounting functions and financial reporting responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting best practices.
- Proven experience with U.S. tax compliance, including preparation and submission of federal, state, and local tax filings.
- Experience managing property tax reporting, sales tax compliance, and other business tax requirements.
- Strong cost accounting experience, including inventory valuation, landed cost analysis, and COGS reporting.
- Experience working within a trading, distribution, import/export, wholesale, or inventory-based business environment.
- Ability to manage month-end and year-end close processes independently.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across international teams and time zones.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining close communication with remote stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with international organizations or cross-border business operations.
- Knowledge of manufacturing accounting principles.
- Experience coordinating with external auditors, CPA firms, and tax advisors.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, inventory management platforms, and tax compliance software.
- CPA designation or CPA-track preferred.
